A friend

You are my rock, my shining star

You make me sparkle from afar.

You are always there when I fall

Even from miles; you hear my call.

We’ve become close in recent months

Now we share our falls and bumps.

You are the closest friend I’ve had;

Because you’re younger doesn’t make it bad.

People watch on and they will judge

Let them stare; we’ll not budge.

You are always close no matter what;

Now I’ll support you and the lot.

You catch my tears as they fall

You hug me, hold me; say stand tall.

I never want to let you go

But now I’ve made you feel low.

I wasn’t supposed to influence but I fear I have;

It hurts so much; I even miss your laugh.

That voice, higher than ours, maybe it’s right

We have tried but can you still fight?

Maybe you cannot cope,

Our friendship is strong and has some scope.

But it’s too much to expect?

I will go now; keep my self-respect.
